Shifting from day to night, from one reality to another. Will the images merge/converge or continue on forever on a collision course? The ad generator is a generative artwork that explores how advertising uses and manipulates language. Words and semantic structures from real corporate slogans are remixed and randomized to generate invented slogans. These slogans are then paired with related images from Flickr, thereby generating fake advertisements on the fly. By remixing corporate slogans, I intend to show how the language of advertising is both deeply meaningful, in that it represents real cultural values and desires, and yet utterly meaningless in that these ideas have no relationship to the products being sold. In using the Flickr images, the piece explores the relationship between language and image, and how meaning is constructed by the juxtaposition of the two. I got when plugging in my digital camera to get some pictures and then windows went to blue screen of death. The GEOMETRY OF INSOMNIA series represents the continuing of exploration of "LATE NIGHT PROGRAMMING" phenomenon, started as studies of urban architecture night sights. Dealing with insomnia of indirectly present individuals is explained here by opening of two parallel problems. Physical, mental and emotional „exercises“ that are imposed to us by reality, are inevitably leading to crucial moments, moments of comprehension of mechanisms of chance - which are ruling the world, and real insights into personal existence. On the other hand, running away, escaping from introspection is leading to other kind of activities – giving up to the illusion of communication and interaction, we are putting our life functions to sleep, by plugging into our machines - computers, TV, cell phones, etc... The only thing that witnesses of human existence are rays of light, innumerable frozen sequences, blurry and sharp sights of everpresent insomnia. "Punching Out" after the night shift at the Keyboard Storage Factory. Created using a process called Scanography** (the capture of live action using the photographic capablities of a flatbed scaner. The resulting image is called a K-scan) ** Patent pending, KR, 2007. Entanglegrids Artist: Jason Nelson Net Art Project Description: This trilogy of three related projects centres on the theme of pop culture spells, those moving images and sounds which seem to control our media consumption. The grids are keyboard controlled, meaning when the user types video clips arrive on the screen, allowing the user to create their own unique video collage or spell combination. As a part of the Entanglegrids are three projects using the same interface: Hermeticon: uses clips from 80s kids and candy commercials, Explode this Explode uses clips from war explosions from historical documentaries, and Trekabularyuses Star Trek videos containing obscure technical languages. Technical Concerns: Needs a flash eight plugin, speakers, a mouse, a keyboard. monitor and a good graphics card.
